Josh & Grace - 3-29-2015

March 29, 2015 – My reaction after two of my closest friends from high school reveal they are engaged!

~

~

The unpopular boy and the untamable girl…

a victorious union magnifying the uncertain nature of fate,

there is incomparable beauty to the strength of a committed bond.

~

Most of the outside world now and forever recognizes them as

harmless nerds, graduate students focused on the field of mathematics

and teaching basic algebra to basic undergraduates.

I recognize them as conquerors,

slaying the dragons of family demons and

defeating the witch’s curse of the long distance relationship.

~

The news they relayed to me of their anticipated engagement

set my soul up for lift off.

The event was somewhat set in stone,

yet to hear the unpopular boy and the untamable girl

say the words (and show off the ring) was

the turning point in our adventure.

~

Staring at my computer screen,

I do not want to make a false start,

for May 2016 feels a million miles off.

Oh, to hell with it…

the unpopular boy and the untamable girl have transformed…

the victorious couple are getting married.

  1. Meant to be! Congratulations to them, and to you, their friend, for seeing how right it is for them.

Sonnet 116: Let me not to the marriage of true minds
    BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
    That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand’ring bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
    Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me prov’d,
I never writ, nor no man ever lov’d.

    Cheers,
    Kathryn
