– the hurt –

More than gender,
more than complexion,
more than class…
we need protection.
We need to protect each
other… when
we need protecting from each
other.
~
Guns, knives, bombing lives – the
hurt is alive and unwell.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, the
tales they tearfully tell…
when left behind…
to pick up pieces,
no peace they find…
in wounds untreated.
~
Guns, knives, bombing lives – the
hurt is alive and unwell.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, the
tales they tearfully tell…
when mortal sin…
leads cheerful charge,
division wins…
the war on hearts.
~
Am I a pacifist,
relaxing both my fists?
Am I a true chump,
fear of bodies at the dump?
If so, it’s because I’ve
seen the ache before.
If so, it’s because I
don’t want the hurt no more.
~
Guns, knives, bombing lives – the
hurt is alive and unwell.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, the
tales they tearfully tell…
